Into the Breach

"Shepard, My Son"

The battle for Sharn erupted quickly and violently. Soon, Bhaal had overcome Elliot and Shepard and the tower the Lich was using as a battery was sent crumbling into the ground. Shepard recovered and grabbed the two, fleeing but being chased down by Bhaal’s powerful tendrils.

Kriv and Vrick continued their vicious melee, lighting charged breath attack’s crackling in the air as Kriv’s Axemen fell one by one around him to the horde of Efreets. A small gnome ran through the battle, yelling for retreat. The Warforged had fallen, it was time to retreat to the Upper City. And the Efreet’s main force marched ever closer towards Kriv’s mansion. Kriv eventually overcame his eldest brother, bringing him axe into his gut and kicking him to the ground. Vrick attempted to crawl away, but was kicked and stomped on by his brother. Near death, he took a small vial of a clear liquid, and handed it to his brother, gurgling out behind shattered teeth and a blood-filled mouth that it contained the essence of his people. Their people. Kriv nodded and accepted the vial, then brought his axe down onto his brothers neck, severing his head and killing him.

Cherry, Rex, and Herlock were overwhelmed, beset by ghouls on all sides. They retreated, Cherry taking flight to find her mother after seeing the tower collapse, and Rex being taken by Herlock. Herlock was soon being trailed by the demonic tendrils as well, and dove around corners, through buildings, and over rooftops to get away, but was eventually struck and sent through a wall. The wall gave way as the two were violently brought to the ground. Herlock told Rex to meet him back later, and took off from Kriv’s mansion.

Rex.. was not so lucky. He was eventually discovered by a horde of ghouls, and though he fought valiantly, was soon overwhelmed and slain in the streets. However, his body was never recovered, and none know of what happened to the Deva. Some say he was eaten, picked clean. Others claim that he used his holy powers to revive himself from the dead.. and others claim that he still wanders the realm, his task to the gods still not over, and that he is an immortal despite the slaying of Orcus.

He told Kriv he had a plan, and to bring his men inside. Kriv did not question his friend, and stayed by his side, asking what this plan was. He began to walk forward, yelling to Kriv that when they built his statue, to make it purple.. as he had always loved purple. Before Kriv could stop him, he charged into the group, firing off daggers from his gauntlets and being filled with arrows in return. He collapsed, near death. The commander of the Efreet army walked up to the bleeding Sebastian as his forces charged the mansion, and Sebastian grinned. With a weak laugh, he asked the commander: “Want to see a magic trick, friend?” And pulled a wand from his side, killing himself, and the charging army, in a purple ball of explosive magic. Each of the party felt his death, and knew of his sacrifice throughout Sharn. Herlock arrived in time to help Kriv and the Axemen evacuate to the upper city, and they quickly left for the elevators.

Cherry soon landed, and was embraced by her mother. Elliot, with tears in her eyes, explained that she would no longer be around to take care of her, and that Cherry would have to watch out for herself and the others when she was gone, and that she loved her more than she had ever loved another during her brief life. With tears in both their eyes, the mother and daughter hugged each other tightly one last time…

T-twon and his agents in “The Cogs” had soon shifted the middle city into an untraversable mash of streets and buildings, with Kriv and his men still stuck inside. They lost dozens of men, but with aerial support from Herlock soon found their way to the elevators, where Kriv held off a tide of Ghouls until the last of his men were safely upon the elevators, taking several hits in the process, but refusing to go down. He stumbled back onto the elevator, bloodied and beaten, and checked in on his men, and began ordering the wounded. Elliot slowly began to dissolve into dust in her daughters arms, whispering her last “I love you” before dissipating into the ether. The Lich fell from the top of the tower, unconscious, but was saved by Cherry and safely landed. The spiritual representation of Bhaal no longer draped the skyline, but something yet stirred in the rubble.

With a weak laugh, he asked the commander: “Want to see a magic trick, friend?” And pulled a wand from his side, killing himself, and the charging army, in a purple ball of explosive magic. Each of the party felt his death, and knew of his sacrifice throughout Sharn. Herlock arrived in time to help Kriv and the Axemen evacuate to the upper city, and they quickly left for the elevators.Shepard got the Lich and Elliot to the S.P.I.R.E tower, where the Lich continued to charge his spell. Cherry soon landed, and was embraced by her mother. Elliot, with tears in her eyes, explained that she would no longer be around to take care of her, and that Cherry would have to watch out for herself and the others when she was gone, and that she loved her more than she had ever loved another during her brief life. With tears in both their eyes, the mother and daughter hugged each other tightly one last time…Shepard was connected to T-twon mentally for a short time, and ordered him to begin shifting the City, unaware that the Axemen had not yet fallen back. He told his men to begin setting up in the S.P.I.R.E tower, but before they begin to move..A bright light filled the sky, and the tower began to shake violently. Shepard sighed, and closed his eyes, feeling a powerful magic ripping away at his soul. Elliot slowly began to dissolve into dust in her daughters arms, whispering her last “I love you” before dissipating into the ether. The Lich fell from the top of the tower, unconscious, but was saved by Cherry and safely landed. The spiritual representation of Bhaal no longer draped the skyline, but something yet stirred in the rubble.A figure emerged from the rubble, Shepard. A younger Shepard, every limb on his body. Shocked, and tears welling in his eyes, Kriv choked out “Sh-Shepard?” And with a grin, the entity replied “No, Bhaal”, while pulling two swords from his side. Kriv howled with rage, and charged. Bhaal created a field around the group, trapping Cherry, Herlock, and Kriv inside. He dodged around the group, cutting Cherry deeply and dodging all her blows. Kriv struck him twice, staggering him, but was in almost no condition to fight himself, his life rapidly fading from him with each swing. Herlock landed two fireballs onto Bhaal, but could not stop him from eventually overwhelming Cherry. Before he could deliver the last blow, a single arc of alchemical power struck Bhaal, and he collapsed to the ground.. dead.Inside the rubble, where the shot orginated, laid the near lifeless body of Shepard. The Lich pulled his only friend into his arms, and asked “Shepard, in the end.. did I do the right thing?” to which no answer came. Shepard had died, and taken his father with him.

He told Kriv he had a plan, and to bring his men inside. Kriv did not question his friend, and stayed by his side, asking what this plan was. He began to walk forward, yelling to Kriv that when they built his statue, to make it purple.. as he had always loved purple. Rex.. was not so lucky. He was eventually discovered by a horde of ghouls, and though he fought valiantly, was soon overwhelmed and slain in the streets. However, his body was never recovered, and none know of what happened to the Deva. Some say he was eaten, picked clean. Others claim that he used his holy powers to revive himself from the dead.. and others claim that he still wanders the realm, his task to the gods still not over, and that he is an immortal despite the slaying of Orcus.A wounded Sebastian limped into Kriv’s Mansion, the Efreet army visible in the horizon. Shepard… well, that is a story. When he died, his soul was taken to the Astral Court. Bahahumt had decided to pass the mantle of his godhood onto Shepard, allowing him to become the god of Hope and Light. Shepard agreed, and watched over his daughter daily, waiting for a time where he would be needed again. A time where gods would be forced to mettle in the affairs of mortals.

The Lich, in honor of Shepard, used his magics to transform his appearance into that of his fallen friend, and with Alma, led his people away into the vast jungles of Xen’Drik, where they slowly began to rebuild, and were eventually cured of their curse that killed them while in sunlight.

This story had finally come to a close.

Hey, guys. I seriously had a blast running this game for two years for you all. It was always the bright spot of my week. You were all some of the best friends I’ve had, and I hope you all go on to do great things later. Love you guys, never change

The Fall (Part 2)

Sebastian, The Lich, and Cherry had managed to gather a small group of civilians, less than a thousand in number, onto the towering Chaos Ship before they quickly departed. Every death in the city had fueled Bhaal’s power, and there was but one city left that could oppose him.

Sharn, Kriv’s home.

Kriv demanded the group help him defend the city, as it was the only place they would stand a chance of stopping Bhaal and his army of efreets and ghouls, which were created from the dead bodies of those from the attack on the drow. The Chaos Ship landed in Sharn, the bustling city of towers. Kriv demanded a landsmeet from all the noble houses and the captain of the city guard, with Herlock as his bodyguard during the proceedings. The Lich and Shepard would attend later, when their forces had been finalized. Through surprisingly good diplomacy (and some intimidation, of course) Kriv gathered forces from each of the houses, and from the city guard. He, each house leader, Shepard, and The Lich met to discuss what their course of action would be (After Kriv convinced everyone that the threat was real, after a recounting from Shepard and how his city was razed). Shepard had met with S.P.I.R.E, which was now run by T-twon, who agreed to offer them aid by controlling the city structures from “The Cogs”.

The plan, the last plan, was not a pleasant one, or one that any felt comfortable with doing. The Warforged they could build in just two days would defend the middle city, while the City guard and the powerful warriors from the noble houses would stay in the upper city, which is where they would evacuate to if the battle in the middle city was lost. Shepard, Elliot, and The Lich would use House Cannith’s mage tower to fuel a powerful spell that would rip the souls of all Bhaalspawn in the Forgotten Realm from their bodies, severing Bhaal’s ties and effectively “re-killing” him. Kriv would defend his mansion in the middle city with his Axemen, and Sebastian would use hit and run tactics on Efreet leaders.

Cherry, Herlock, and Rex would hold out for as long as they could against swarms of Ghouls at the front gate, then retreat when they would be near overwhelmed, which would signal the need to fall back to the upper city. House Darnan would provide the use of their transportation runes, which they would use to evacuate the lower city, bringing the middle city’s population to the upper city. This plan, obviously, spelled death for both Shepard and Elliot. Shepard met with his daughter after the plan was agreed upon, pulling her aside and giving goodbyes.

“Alma, my daughter.. I have watched you grow to adulthood by my side. But now, well.. I’ll be gone. And it’ll be up to you to lead our people. Know that I love you very much, and that you mean more to me than anyone ever has. I love you, Alma. And I will always be proud to be your father. I will always watch over and protect you, no matter what happens. Be good for Sebastian when I’m gone. Goodbye, my only child.” He took her into his arms, gripping tightly at her one last time in his large, robotic embrace. As tears fell from both their eyes and she choked out a simple “I love you too, daddy.”, the rest of the group prepared themselves for what would be their last battle. A suicide mission. But I mean, that is pretty much what they’ve become known for, right?

Defenses were prepared in the coming days, but they fell. Shepard and Elliot battled Bhaal alone, being struck down over and over but refusing to give up, his Shadowy, tendril’d body smashing into them over and over as it hovered over the tower. The Lich kept away from the fight, trying to charge his spell. Kriv’s brother, Vrick, has returned to slay him, allying himself with Bhaal in a hope to kill his younger brother. The two dueled as a battle between Axemen and Efreets broke out inside and outside the Mansion.

Cherry, Rex, and Herlock fought against wave after wave of Ghouls, avoiding gnashing teeth and powerful claws. They fought heroically, but were slowly being pushed back by the unrelenting tide of monsters. However, they did not retreat, and the battle between warforged and Efreet still echoed throughout Sharn.

Maybe things were going to go as planned.

The Fall (Part 1)

The party quickly filtered out into the halls to see Shepard standing over a wounded Cherry and Elliot, which quickly sparked tensions as he tried to explain, Kriv and The Lich ready to attack him. Before much could be said, more efreets poured into the room, attacking the group. They regrouped, grabbing Sebastian from his room and having him carry the wounded Elliot. They fought their way out of the Palace that had been their home, taking down scores of efreet soldiers as they made their way slowly towards the harbor where the Chaos Ship waited for them, Axemen at the ready.

Kriv and Shepard held off the efreets as they made their way down the street into the ship, scores of the well armed, fire controlling humanoids eventually overwhelming the pair and forcing them to retreat onto the ship, where even more began to clamber on board. The Lich began to fuel the powerful ship, but without another arcane source it took much longer than usual. However, the group easily bested the efreets and were soon in the sky, taking a cannon shot or two into the hull but the damage was relatively low, considering they had just escaped a hostile city. The ship was floating in the Astral Sea, and the group contemplated what to do next.

Shepard begged his friends and allies to return with him to the Underdark, so that he could protect his people if it was not already to late. They agreed after a bit of deliberation, and The Lich set course for the Underdark.

His kingdom burned. Civilians were being slain in the street, and the “Axecutioner” laid dead, which enraged Kriv, as he charged into a group of Efreets and brutally slayed them all, trying to save his already dead friend. Shepard charged into his throne room, and was met with the imposing glare of a possessed Sultan. With a wicked grin and no words, he held up the decapitated head of his wife. Shepard snapped, going into a frenzy and drawing his two swords, charging the Sultan. He landed several blows, but the possessed body would not go down easily. A fireball struck his chest, sending him sprawling across the ground. Kriv ran into the room, ready to help his friend, but Shepard begged him to instead find his daughter, Alma, and get her to safety. He stumbled to his feet, and charged again. The sultans sword slid across his cheek and side, wounding him, but not killing him. He dropped his short sword, holding only Bloodwraith. He gripped at the Sultan’s arm, breaking it and disarming him. A single, fluid half-spin and a thrust of his sword later, the Sultan’s body died, falling with a heavy thud to the floor. Shepard grabbed a nearby dagger and began to stab into his body, his screams of anger eventually turning to a sob as the King’s city burned around him.

Kriv had rescued Alma, who had been protected by her Bard trainer, “Val Hallen”, who did not make it. Visibly shaken, and afraid of her father after witnessing his rage, she hid behind Kriv who had to quickly escort her to the ship. Shepard walked from the burning remains of his home, no longer a king, no longer a hero.

He was a ranger.

Shepard wandered aimlessly away from the group as they pulled dead and wounded out of the rubble, a deep voice filling his head.

“Shepard, Son, I have returned.”

Bhaal gave Shepard an offer he could hardly refuse: Help him, or he would raze his entire civilization to the ground. Bhaal planned to have Elliot killed, as her powers were drawn from his energy, which, while he was still recuperating from death, was a fairly serious issue for him.

Shepard refused to help kill her, but agreed to not become involved in exchange for the safety of his family. It was also implied that in time he would be forced to kill Kriv, Cherry, Herlock, and Rex.. but he agreed, disgusted with himself, but feeling he had no choice but to protect his young family. He had become a servant, a Thrall, to the God Of Murder.

That night, back in the palace, Shepard and Cherry were each awakened by the sound of battle. In their hallway was a dozen Elite Guards, attacking Elliot. It seemed that Bhaal had taken control of the Sultan, and was planning on using the powerful elemental humanoids as part of a group of worshipers he would build. Elliot had already slain three, but was beginning to be overwhelmed. A terrified Shepard begged Elliot to help, but the iridescent whispers in his head warned him of the consequences of his involvement, and quietly told Cherry he could be of no use. Cherry ran screaming and crying into the crowd, using a rarely seen lethal force as she took quickly took down guard after guard with snapped necks and caved in chests. She eventually had killed all but the last couple of guards, but Elliot was deeply wounded, and Cherry’s distress had lowered her defenses, and she did not notice the Efreet ready to impale her with a spear.

Shepard quickly argued with Bhaal in his head, stating that allowing Cherry to die was not a part of the deal they had made, although Bhaal insisted that he would cancel their deal if he interfered and saved the girl, as the guard would easily be able to finish off Elliot after he had killed the girl.

Shepard gritted his teeth and took a deep breath, and let a powerful lance of magic from his gauntlet smash into the guard, killing him.

An enraged Bhaal roared within his mind, cursing Shepard and telling his that he had sealed the fate of himself, his, people, and his family. He ignored him, trying to bring Elliot to her feet. The rest of the party was awaken by the sound of battle, and was beginning to empty out into the halls…

Assault On the Demon Prince Keep (Part 2)

Sebastian and Rex trotted along quietly on horseback, neither saying much. At one point, Rex threatened to beat up Sebastian for his “smart mouth”, but was quickly silenced by a harsh reply from the effeminate pirate. After riding for hours, they finally arrived back at the City Of Brass, only to be quickly swept up by the party into their assault plan, soon finding themselves on board the Chaos Ship on the way to Orcus’ stronghold. They were filled in on the plan, which had changed slightly. Cherry and Herlock would pretend to be demons inside the keep, and give a signal for when they found Orcus and when to strike. Herlock naturally looked the part and Cherry used her changling abilities to become a comically busty succubus. The assault on the city began near mid-day, with the Chaos Ship providing sporadic aerial support matched with the city’s cannons as they flew over the battlefield, pushing forward no matter what happened, losing a small handful of Drow manning the cannons as they attempted to escape the battle and execute their plan.

Rex used a single “lifeline” of sorts from his god, whom he championed, to find the location of Orcus’ compound, and directed the party on where to go. Within dusk, they had arrived, and discretely seeded both Herlock and Cherry into their ranks. Cherry was almost raped by a group of demons, which terrified her near to fainting, but was saved by Herlock when he imitated a Pit Fiend commander, which almost caused the two to be caught, but due to some quick thinking, and the clever use of his supposed rank, he had the group that questioned him executed. From then on, nobody dared whisper a word against the Pit Fiend. The keep was a single courtyard with hanging, rotted bodies for food, and a large, spiked temple in the back, a red glow illuminating for the tall glass windows. Standing at the entrance were two humans dressed in long black robes, clearly high priests for Orcus. Herlock quietly assassinated one, and flew up into the air, letting out a loud “Ca-caw!” to inform the party to make their attack.

Although the keep was undermanned, the demons still outnumbered the bulk of the Chaos Ship 3 to 1. Sebastian, Elliot, and The Lich stayed on board to help defend the floating craft while the party dropped from the sky, charging into the temple as the roar of cannons ripped through the attacking demon swarms. Kriv was launched into the air by the remaining High Priest, but was saved by Shepard who took down the defender with a few shots from his gauntlets. Kriv recovered, and knocked down the large temple door blocking his way, charging towards their lifelong foe.. The Prince of Demons, Orcus.

Kriv was of course, backed by Cherry, Rex, Shepard.. and Herlock, although he made sure to stay close to the entrance. Orcus was kneeling in a large center chamber, his skull mace glowing a sickly green and red. The group surmised (correctly) that he was using it to command his forces, and even if they did not defeat him, the time they spent distracting him would buy the City Of Brass enough time to overwhelm his attackers. He taunted the party, recounting how during their previous encounters, they had always failed to slay him. However, he now gazed upon them with only a single eye, as Kriv had torn the other from his skull when they defeated his Lieutenant, Zirithan, in the Underdark. Enraged by Kriv’s taunts, his boney wings shot from his back and he charged the group with a large, flaming sword, and a magical whip. Kriv met him headlong with Shepard by his side, the two using their smaller size and superior numbers to keep his attacks unfocused, although Shepard took the majority of the beating. Cherry and Rex flanked him from the side, Rex taking several hits from Orcus’ sword for Cherry, but dealing a substantial amount of damage to him, due to his lifelong mission to kill the Demon Lord and all his minions. Cherry’s fist were of little use against the Demon Prince, but still provided a nice distraction from time to time, dodging the occasional blow and landing one very solid hit that stumbled the lord. Herlock attacked with his most powerful spells from afar, landing hit after hit with fireballs, shadowy tendrils, and dark masses of pure magical energy. Near the end of the battle, Shepard, Kriv, Rex, and Orcus all stood battered and bloodied. An enraged Orcus growled deeply and took off through his temple, refusing to be slain by a group of adventurers from the Forgotten Realm, whom not fifteen years earlier he could of easily slain if he had the foresight to do so.

The group took after him, refusing to let this opportunity slip through their fingers. Cherry carried Rex and Shepard carried Kriv, with Herlock flying behind, not wanting to get to caught up in the action. Shepard was hit by a fireball from Orcus that would have ended his life if not for Saverok giving up his magical powers (and soul) to save his brother, his voice slowly fading from Shepard’s head. Kriv swung wildly with axe but could do little, as nobody could seem to keep up with the lord. He smashed through the Chaos Ship, sending it spiraling to the ground as a horrified Shepard and Kriv looked on. No drow survived the crash, but the Axemen took few casualties. Kriv, enraged, landed a powerful, lighting filled critical blow to Orcus that sent him tumbling out of the sky and into the ground..

The Prince of Demons, the destroyer of the Underdark.. was slain.

As the demons began to frenzy and attack one another, and the party checked on the survivors of the crash, a single, haunting voice could be heard echoing across the Elemental Chaos.

“I. AM. REBORN.” The same words spoken by Saverok years earlier.. however, the group knew of who this was. It was Bhaal, the god of Murder, the death of his two sons fueling a return to form. His voice soon filled Shepard’s head..

Assault On the Demon Prince Keep

The group soon found themselves standing in the Sultan’s throne room in his palace, escorted by guards. He was furious at them, scolding the group for leading a swarm of demons to his city, citing the casualties the limited race sustained during the fight. Shepard and Kriv argued that it was a necessary loss, as the swarm would of simply grouped with Orcus’s army if they hadn’t of taken it out when they did. Refusing to entertain any notions of losing his own men as “necessary”, the Sultan banished the party from the City Of Brass, no longer allowing them in until they closed the Demongate not ten miles from the city walls. They accepted, as they had little choice.

The Sultan also had their Chaos Ship grounded, which cut them off from their men and supplies, leaving only the party and their friends to fight against a marching army of demon’s, with Orcus at their backs. They set out, Shepard carrying Kriv and the Lich (which was a bit of a struggle), Cherry carrying her mother, Elliot, and Herlock carrying Sebastian, who commented on his new, rippling abs, making Herlock quite uncomfortable. The Demongate was ominous: Red, glowing crystals surrounded a portal that showed a single Grey-Plated Paladin standing, ready to face the horde of demons marching towards him. Everyone but the Lich and Elliot went through the portal and joined up with the man, who introduced himself as a Deva, an angel sent to accomplish a specific task and was immortal until that time, named Rex. His task was to slay the king of Demons, Orcus. Their goals were similar, so the group and the paladin joined forces, at least for this battle.

Shepard had Saverok set up a magical zone of defense to protect the himself and Cherry. Herlock would, as usual, stay behind and keep foes from getting behind them. Kriv and Rex would take on the stronger demons attempting to muscle their way through the gate, and Sebastian would handle the quicker, less powerful foes that took up the majority of the horde.

…Things didn’t go as planned.

A rock formation near Cherry and Shepard revealed itself to be a demon, with rock arms that quickly snatched up Shepard and began beating him into the ground. He yelled for Cherry to run ahead, and avoid being grabbed as well. She soon began plowing her way through a hail of fists and kicks down the mob of demons, keeping them from interfering with Shepard’s fight with the demon. Kriv was taking on two giant, muscular leaders, locked in a melee outnumbered, but still stronger than the two, dodging away from powerful punches and countering with powerful, electric swings of his rune-covered axe. Herlock created a steel wall of fire that kept a large portion of the demons at bay, killing the weaker ones as they drew near it. Rex had been grabbed by a balarga, a clawed monstrosity, and was attempting to both break free and avoid being crushed to death by its massive claws. Shepard unleashed a furious barrage of shots from his gauntlets at the rock demon, was dropped down, then smashed through the ground and buried alive, only to quickly resurface and take down the attacker. Rex was saved from the Balruga by Cherry, and Shepard ordered the retreat as Kriv took down the last of the demons around him. Herlock, of course, was the first to go through the portal and make his retreat. At least, he was the first to attempt to go through the portal. It seemed that the portal was one way for those who were not of demonic blood, which allowed Herlock to pass through, but none of the others. Saverok knew of a spell that would bring Shepard and two others to any point they could see, and casted it bringing Shepard, Cherry, and Kriv through the portal just as it began to close.. leaving Sebastian and Rex surrounded by a horde of monsters, with Orcus warping in and joining the chase.

Sebastian was two hundred yards of Rex before he could even turn around. Sebastian threw his magical hat up into the air, fired off a wand from his belt, and took out a group of demons chasing Rex, but then ran away, most of the monsters chasing after the closer target than the skinny, seemingly weak Drow in the distance. He was clawed, bitten, stabbed, and sliced, but eventually managed to use his powers to escape the horde and limp his way into the a human settlement he had been staying in during his mission. A young boy ran up to him, yelling his name and excitedly asking him if he defeated Orcus. He grimaced for a moment, then decided it best to not let the boy know what had happened and told him that he had in fact single-handedly defeated Orcus. He had the boy help him to the Inn, where Sebastian had already set up residence. They both contemplated letting their mission end, and not rejoining the group back at Brass, but decided against it and agreed to head out on horseback to the city in the morning, but foe the night they would rest at the Inn. Sebastian with a young halfling boy, of course.

The rest of the Party was welcomed back to the City, given residency again in the palace, and rested for the night, Rex using a telepathy space to inform Shepard they had both lived, and would rejoin them in the morning. The Sultan grouped with the party, and devised a plan for the next two days, as shutting the gate simply slowed down the army and did not stop it as the party had thought.

Shepard and the party would take the Chaos Ship and their men around the city and the armies, and attack the Demon Prince’s Stronghold alone, as it would be less defended than usual. The party would infiltrate the base, where Orcus was sure to be commanding his otherwise savage men, and kill him, sending the army into disarray and allowing the Sultan’s men to push the advantage and win the battle back in the city. It was perhaps the best plan the group had devised before, and just maybe, would go smoother than anything else they had thought up before also.

Primordial Ooze

The group awoke slowly, catching up on lost sleep. The Efreet’s were a bizarre race, they required no food and thus kept little around to eat, which was discovered by Shepard when he requested pancakes, but instead received milk, honey, water, and bread. The party quietly downed the food, somewhat dissapointed that their stay in a Sultan’s palace was so far nothing more than offering a good night’s rest. The Lich met the party at the breakfast table with the Sultan, and they began to discuss the possible places they could seek out both allies and perhaps surprise the few remaining Primordials.

The Sultan gave them three possible places of interest: Orcus has aligned himself with the Primrodials and was marching his vast army of demons through a gateway towards The City Of Brass not fifty miles away. The Air Sultan, a powerful Genie and founder of reanimation magic, owned the last known Chaos Ship and resided in his broken palace. And Mul Ordan, a lost dwarven outpost, was surrounded by a sea of demons, being defended by a small group of angels for hundreds of years. The outpost is being used as a makeshift prison for an ancient Primordial known simply as “Colossus”.

The group decided to first visit the Air Sultan, as the prospect of having a very powerful ship was one that enticed the entire group. The Lich warned Shepard that if he attempted to strike the Genie, that it was best he didn’t interfere. Kriv and Herlock boarded their Galleon, with Shepard, Renzler, Cherry, Sebastian, and Elliot in tow in the other. With The Lich guiding the way aboard Kriv’s ship, they passed through the “civilized” areas of the Elemental Chaos and into the place known as The Abyss, famed for its psychological effects on mortals. One of Kriv’s men suddenly became drowned in sorrow and fear, throwing himself to his death off the side of Kriv’s ship. Shepard became convinced that everyone was out to kill him, Kriv became depressed, and Herlock felt that he had suddenly become immortal. Cherry became very, very angry, which scared Shepard even more, which in hindsight ended up being hilarious.

As the mentally shaken group arrived at the torn, dusty remains of a once sprawling courtyard and palace, they were welcomed by a small, white skinned and white haired halfling with dark black eyes. By his side were two whispy images of dogs, smoke trailing from their body. He welcomed the group to his home and invited them inside, where the mental effects of the Abyss would subside. The party, joined by The Lich, met him inside and were shown his impressive Chaos Ship; Marble Black body, dozens of fel cannons peppering the sides, and four giant glowing control orbs to move and steer on the deck. But before the group could begin negotiations, The Lich flew into a rage and pulled one of his three cards from the Deck Of Many Things from its Satchel, yelling that it was this Sultans fault he had become a Lich in the first place. He turned the card, revealing that it would create a Dread Wraith to attack whoever had read it. The Sultan had glanced upon it, and was soon dead on the floor, his face ripped from his body. During the brief struggle dozens of his smoke hounds emerged to attack the party, but were easily defeated. The group quickly seized the Chaos Ship, which was more than large enough to hold both the crew of the Astral Galleons. They departed, with nobody questioning The Lich’s hasty attack against their potential ally.

Their next destination was Mul Ordan, with the group deciding that killing the imprisoned Primordial was a good idea. About five miles away from the place, a red and brown sea of demons came into view, snarling and pacing around the small, dwarven building. However, they made no effort to attack, they appeared to be waiting for something, although nobody was sure what. They landed their ship outside, shooting into the crowd of demons occasionally with their newly acquired Chaos Ship. Sebastian, Elliot, The Lich, and the party all went inside, and were greeted by a dozen angels. However, their hundreds of years spent near demonic taint had curse them, and each bore terrible horns, clawed hands, and red eyes. They drew their recurve bows and aimed at Herlock, accusing the party of attempting to bring a demon into their midst. After Shepard defused the situation, they agreed to let the group release the Primordial. It was encased in stone, a giant beast with a skull head and a humanoid shape, standing a few dozen feet tall. The only way to release it was through a spell which the leader of the nicknamed “Blood Angels” knew. He volunteered to give his life to cast the spell, but Shepard had other plans..

He had his men force Renzler off the ship, pushed to his knees, and executed the once assassin and now bodyguard, claiming it punishment for the dozens of men he foolishly let die and for the alliance he forged with Orcus years prior. The group stood, silent and surprised by Shepard’s brutality, but did nothing..

The spell was cast, and the Primordial shuttered and shook, breaking from his prison, and smashing down half the building, cutting off the party from everyone else – and alone with the Primordial. They quickly melded into their old routine, Cherry took the form of a celestial tiger and climbed on top of the beast while Kriv dodged around it and hacked at it’s ankles from below, being kicked into the ground by its giant feet more than once, but always getting back up. Shepard and Herlock attacked from the sidelines, but were both hit by powerful motes of elemental energy, almost killing Herlock and wounding Shepard. Eventually Kriv destroyed one of it’s legs, and it began to crumble, but kneeled and continued to fight, smashing Shepard into the ground with a powerful punch. But Cherry acted quickly, and with amazing speed and strength, removed the Priomordial’s head from it’s shoulders. It fell apart, dead. The group made their way back to their allies, but had little time to celebrate their victory, as they were being charged by the once stagnant horde of demons. They quickly made their way to the Chaos Ship, bringing the Blood Angels along for the tow. Shepard yelled for his men to keep firing onto the horde, and told the captain to return to The City of Brass. Kriv and a handful of his men, along with Cherry, kept the winged demons from the deck. With the city in sight, an army of Efreets charged from the gates towards the demons, and Elliot leapt from the ship, telling Cherry to stay inside where it was safe. She was followed by Shepard, Kriv, and Sebastian. Herlock took to the air, but was grabbed by a fellow Pit Fiend and a struggle quickly followed.

Kriv plowed his way through a horde of demons, with Shepard watching his back and Elliot gracefully sliding through the mobs of monsters, Halbred in hand and divine spells launching from the other. Eventually, the battle was won, but with a moderate amount of casualties to the Efreets, much to the Sultans dismay.

But still, there was a force five times larger marching towards the city, with Orcus leading them. That was still a problem.

The Elemental Chaos

The two powerful galleons floated through the barren Astral Sea, passing gently by the astral diamonds and random hazards of the beautiful hub between realms. Kriv and Herlock, along with Kriv’s Axemen, stayed on one ship, with one of Shepard’s captains manning it. Shepard, Renzler, and Cherry stayed on a ship to themselves, the Drow quietly keeping the ship afloat, men at the ready on the guns.

Suddenly, warping in beside the two ships, were four scarred, energy-crackling astral galleons, who opened fire immediately on their two ships. On the decks of both ships were what, at first glance, appeared to be your average mix of human and elven sailors, but a closer inspection revealed something horrific: Each man was seemingly infused with an elemental spirit, evidenced by their icy fingertips and fiery eyes, and their opens wounds leaking mud instead of precious blood used to sustain life. Shepard ordered Renzler to command his men while he and Cherry boarded one of the enemies ship, while Kriv and Herlock held off a boarding themselves from a large group of Chaos Sailors. Shepard and Cherry moved quickly, leaping from their bridge onto the electrical charged galleon, being attacked by what appeared to be an elite group of the elemental sailors. The fight was grueling, with everyone involved taking several hits, but Cherry managing to punch down several of the sailors while Shepard covered her with his gauntlets, blowing away the elite swashbucklers left and right.

Herlock and Kriv managed to keep all their men alive on the ship, the Axemen easily holding against the invaders. However, the captain could not win a fight against two galleons unopposed, and their ship was beginning to be filled with holes, men evacuating the cannons to head to the bridge. Renzler decided that in the absence of strategy, he would instead use daring and brash naval combat. He ordered the ship to be tilted to the side and fire all cannons, destroying one of the four pirate galleons, but not without taking several hits in the hull that killed off a handful of the Drow crew. And before they could relocate, the third galleon was beside them blasting away. However, chasing after the pirates was an effeminate young Drow Male wearing a purple hat, a large, gaudy golden gauntlet, and a wearing a black cape. He boarded Renzler’s ship and told him that, for a “small” price, he would help the group defeat these pirates. Renzler quickly agreed, and the young man with a grin introduced himself as Sebastian, the most talented and handsome pirate in all the realms. He leaped from Renzler’s half-destroyed ship to the pirate galleon, wrapping himself in his long cloak and appearing in their crew cabin, the sound of swash-buckling echoing throughout the ship. Herlock and Kriv destroyed the ship beside them by boarding it, and killing everyone inside in a glorious mix of fireballs and cannons, the fight being won when Herlock gave into his demonic blood, transforming into a large, powerful Pit Fiend after he lost his arm in the attack.

Renzler lost even more men in the fight trying to rescue Cherry and Shepard, being forced to evacuate the Drow ship and onto the astral galleon Sebastian was fighting on. Before Cherry and Shepard could reach the crew quarters, a small ship shot out quickly, holding a handful of the elite sailors and a large, bearded man yelling out that his name was Mageworth, claiming to be true ultimate pirate. The group took their battered Galleon and the stolen one, and recouped. Shepard was introduced to Sebastian, who informed him that Renzler had promised him a reward, and that after he received it he would be on his way. Shepard offered him a hefty sum of 10,000 astral diamonds, which he accepted, and also convinced him to stay with them until they ran into Mageworth again, as he was certain he would be back. That night, Renzler and Sebastian shared a bed, making sweet tender love inside the galleon, much to the surprise of the party. The Lich informed the group that his plan was to meet with the Sultan, Arsah Kelmedon, in the City Of Brass, an Efreet city, and convince him to give them shelter and aid in their fight against the Primordials. Everyone agreed that this would be their best plan, as they had no base of operations inside the Elemental Chaos.

The arrived at the city, passing over large, brass towers with magical cannons aiming at them as soon as they warped through to the realm. They landed in a dock, unsure of what to do, and were met by a large force of Efreets, tall, muscular all male fire-humanoids. After several threats between the guard-captain and Kriv, the group eventually agreed to be brought to the Sultan’s palace while their crewmen remained at the docks. They were met with several stares from the slaves and citizens as they were marched down the streets, and Kriv promised the guard-captain that one day he would return to end the slavery and caste system that existed in their culture. The meeting with Sultan was surprisingly informal, with the Sultan offering the group free stay in his palace, but not the crew. He told them of a few points of interest in the Elemental Chaos: The Air Sultan, who was about 80 miles away, could prove a valuable ally and had the only known remaining Chaos Galleon, powerful ships used by Archons during the Primordial War. About twenty miles from the city was a slowly forming Demongate, which Orcus, who now resided in this realm, planned to march an army through to overtake The City Of Brass. And that a small group of angels protected a trapped Primordial from escaping in a lost Dwarven monument known as Mul Thazag, but that it had been surrounded by a large swarm of demons, and none had seen the group for several years.

The party decided that their first course of action would be to head to the Air Sultan and meet with him, as they needed all the allies they could muster. However, one ally was already waiting for them; Elliot. She had come to the city to request aid in slaying a Primordial herself, and was relived to see the party, and her daughter. She took the news of her husband Alabaster’s death surprisingly well, and offered to take Cherry to her room for her to sleep for the night. The group each went their separate ways in the palace, taking to their own rooms, and preparing for a rough morning.

A Factory Beyond Time (Part 3)

The spirit of Saverok returned to Shepard, telling him that a simple flip of a switch was all it took to release the electric chains holding them to the chairs. They each stood to escape, with Cherry and Renzler both coming to after being released. Kriv destroyed the warforged Morte was controlling, and the ceiling above them slip open to reveal a faint light, perhaps leading to the upper levels of the factory once again. Cherry jumped the hundred feet up to surface with Renzler in tow, while Shepard flew up carrying both the weighty Kriv and the frail Herlock. Once above, they were confronted by Morte, controlling the Lich’s body. Shepard attacked before any diplomacy could be established, and took to beating Morte to pieces with the help of Kriv and Cherry while Herlock and Renzler placed the now Lich possessed skull into the socket on the top of the Warforged Titan. After the (rather easy) defeat of the Lich, and a quick reversal of bodies, with the Lich back in his, and Morte back in his skull (and tucked away in a satchel of Herlock’s), the group was faced with another problem: With the Lich in control of the higher functions of the factory, he discovered a large, heavily modified Warforged scouring the lower levels, with a beaten Alabaster tied to a chair.

Morte explained to Herlock that he had let the Warforged, who proclaimed to be king of the warforged, King Of Blades, in. He wished to capture the factory from the Thri-kreen and use it to create more of his “people” for his own personal army. However, he felt that the party was also attempting to capture it for their use, and Morte had hoped the three factions inside the factory would kill one another, giving him free reign of the systems inside. Cherry, panicking, demanded that the Lich open a way to her father. However, Shepard instead decided to bring the dracolich to them and attempt to bargain with it. In a very hilarious manner, the Lich brought the room the Dracolich was in crashing through the walls to allow the group to speak with it, which opened a way for Cherry to jump down and fight The King Of Blades. She jumped before anyone could stop her, slamming into the Warforged and unleashing a furious barrage of blows, but was grabbed by the neck and almost stabbed, but was saved by a shot from Shepard. The Dracolich attacked Kriv on sight and sent him flying below towards Cherry, landing back first with a heavy thud. The Dracolich flew away quickly, not wanting to get caught up in any more afairs of the parties. Two dog-shaped warforged attacked Shepard, Renzler, and Herlock, while Kriv and Cherry fought against the King Of Blades. Herlock used his infernal magic to trick the two beasts into serving him and Renzler, and named them Hilt and Pommel. Between Kriv’s furious axe swings and Cherry’s amazing agility, the King Of Blades was brought down before he could slay either one of them. However, Alabaster was already killed, much to the dismay of Cherry, his young daughter.
Fighting back tears, Cherry lept back up the tunnel with Kriv in tow, and demanded that the party head out. The group decided to leave what remained of the factory intact, and that Kriv and Shepard would gather their forces and the Lich would them at Shepard’s palace, where they would take two astral galleons through the Astral Sea into the Elemental Chaos, where they would confront and slay any Primordials they found. Cherry left with Shepard and Renzler, while Herlock decided to “chill” with Kriv in Sharn, where Kriv and his axemen all shared a home, which was a gaudy, over sized, gold-studded mansion. Shepard’s daughter, Alma, and Cherry quickly connected… and in matter of hours were having awkward, experimental teenage make out sessions, while Alma was being.. “protected” by Renzler, although she was unaware of the fact. Shepard discovered that in his absence his wife had been courted by a Bard, and confronted the man in his throne room, using his Eladrin boots to teleport behind him and deliver a stunning blow while shouting “Surprise Motherfucker!” at the top of his lungs, sending the man flying across the room.

Alma and Cherry ended their make out session to see what was happening, and Renzler joined the fight to protect his king. The mans wounds leaked a bizarre blue liquid instead of blood, despite his human appearance. He controlled powerful magics, wounding both Renzler and Shepard, but was unable to fight against them both and was subdued and captured by the two. Shepard demanded he be locked away in Spellhold so he could be questioned, and after an argument with his wife, who had cheated on him, confronted the creature. It revealed itself to be a primordial, although the weakest of his kind. He had been sent on a suicide mission to attempt to assassinate Kriv and Shepard, but knew that his chances of succeeding were low. He offered to leave the two alone in exchange for being released, and was granted it by Shepard, who felt he had nothing to fear from a Primordial so easily defeated.

The Lich had returned to Sharn, and had opened the way for Kriv to march his men through (portals, love ‘em) to Shepard’s palace. Along with Herlock, Kriv and his men (40 axe-wielding, muscular men, and 10 archers) lined up in his courtyard, much to the surprise of Shepard. Shepard brought 100 of his best Drow to man his astral galleons, and brought Cherry and Renzler along as well, figuring he would need the strongest to fight against the Primordials. Promising his daughter he would keep Cherry safe, he told her that it was up to her to watch out for her mother while he was gone, and that he would be back in time for her birthday, kissing her gently on the forehead as his men loaded up onto the two ships. With the Lich opening a portal into the Astral Sea, the two ships left a dock into the strange, magical place. Kriv and Herlock on one ship, Cherry, Shepard, and Renzler on another.

It was time to take the fight to the Primordials, and stop them before they could muster up enough forces to pose a serious threat to their Forgotten Realm.
